Q: Why is the town spending $2,500 on fireworks that will probably last 20 minutes when the money could be spent to fill some potholes and do some resealing on roads around town?

A: Mayor Barbara Brewer said the fireworks the town had planned for the Fourth of July were canceled because of the Willow Fire, but people complained about not having the display. She said she tried to arrange for a fireworks show for Labor Day but because the company responsible could not schedule an exhibit here, she suggested something be done in conjunction with the annual Christmas Electric Light Parade. That is the current plan.

As for the potholes, "That amount of money wouldn't fix very many potholes," she said. "Besides, there is other money in the budget to repair potholes. People just need to let us know where they are."
