This weekend is the last chance for Rim country residents to contribute to the Christmas Box campaign for Operation Christmas Child.
Once again Luann Barker is coordinating the campaign, which is administered by an international Christian relief organization called Samaritan's Purse, headed by Franklin Graham, son of the Rev. Billy Graham.
"We will be delivering the boxes to Flagstaff on Nov. 22," Barker said. Contributions can made to the program until Nov. 21.
Last year Rim country residents contributed 534 boxes to the project. The gift boxes were delivered to children in 89 countries, including Afghanistan, Cambodia, India, Sudan and Venezuela.
Suggested gift items include:
- Toys and musical instruments such as small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos and jump ropes. Please include extra batteries for toys requiring them.
- School supplies: pens, pencils, sharpeners, crayons, markers, stamps and ink pad sets, coloring books, writing pads, paper and solar calculators.
- Hygiene items: toothbrush, toothpaste, mild bar soap in plastic bag, comb and washcloth.
- Other: hard candy, lollipops, mints, gum, sunglasses, flashlights with extra batteries, baseball caps, socks, T-shirts, toy jewelry, hair clips, watches and small picture books.
The following items cannot be accepted: used articles, war-related toys, chocolate or perishable food, liquids (shampoo, soap, lotion, bubbles), over-the-counter medications and breakable items.
This program is all about children helping children by providing a simple, tangible way for children and teens to join adults in sharing the joy of giving at Christmas. The program was started in 1990 in Wales. For more information, contact Barker at (928) 474-9761.
