We would like to publicly thank Linda Haught Ortega, Gila County recorder, and Sadie Tomerlin-Dalton, voter registration supervisor, for their efforts in assisting us to vote in the recent election. We had left the United States prior to October, before the absentee ballots were first available, and did not return to Payson until Nov. 14, after the election. By prior arrangement with Linda Haught Ortega, we agreed to vote by fax from Cairo, Egypt where we were staying for a few days in early October. It took several e-mails and several fax attempts, but in the end we were both able to vote on Oct. 7. Without the quick responses from our Gila County personnel, especially Sadie Tomerlin-Dalton, we would have missed the opportunity to vote. It was an amazing experience to vote from a foreign country in an election where historic numbers of Americans voted.
