'Tip-A-Cop' A Success

Some big tippers at Macky's Grill Saturday helped local families have a Christmas this year.

Uniformed officers from the Payson Police Department and the Gila County Sheriff's Office served food and beverages to customers. Tips went to the Law Enforcement Christmas for Kids Program, which helps families in need during the holidays.

"We raised $2,000," Payson Police Sgt. Donny Garvin said. "The biggest tip came from a party of two who left a $500 tip."

Although there were a few spills and mishaps, Garvin said the officers did a good job.

"We really appreciated that the owners of Macky's, Greg and Carrie Day, who allowed us to do this benefit," Garvin said. "And the waiters and waitresses who gave up their tips."

A dozen new toys were also collected.

The program allows for qualified families to receive necessities like coats and clothing. New toys will be bought with remaining funds.
