Anita Escobedo, chief deputy for the Gila County clerk of the superior court, has announced that she is seeking the appointment to complete Margaret Toot's term. Toot retires from her position as clerk of the superior court, Dec. 31, 2004.
"I feel I want to continue on with what I've been doing," Escobedo said. "It has always been a goal of mine to step into the clerk's position."
Escobedo has worked in the clerk's office for 27 years beginning in 1978 as an account clerk. Previously, she worked for the Gila County recorder. Escobedo has filled every capacity in the clerk's office, taking on various positions with increasing responsibility until she was appointed to the position of chief deputy clerk of superior court in 2000.
She has served on many statewide committees at the request of the Arizona Supreme Court and is especially knowledgeable in the areas of financial assessments and court case management.
An active member of Democratic Women's Club, Escobedo has held offices of vice president and president for the group. She is currently on the board of directors for the Marian Miami Credit Union, and has been involved in many youth organizations throughout the years.
Escobedo, a lifelong resident of Gila County, was born and raised in Miami. She is married to Mark Escobedo who works for Southwest Gas.
"If appointed to the office of clerk of superior court, I will continue to serve the citizens of both southern and northern Gila County and the superior court to the best of my ability," Escobedo said.
She is looking forward to working more often in the Payson area. She will strive to continue the tradition of her predecessor by providing as much service to Rim country citizens as possible, and by keeping her door open to any resident who wishes to see her.
