Lawrence F. Dircks, 79, died Nov. 23, 2004. He was born Sept. 5, 1925 at Stoneman Lake, Ariz., and grew up in Camp Verde, Ariz.
He served in the Navy in World War II. He was in charge of the gyro compass of a destroyer escort.
He went to school in Angola, Ind., got his degree in electrical engineering and worked at sawmills and power plants all over Arizona until his retirement.
Mr. Dircks was an active member of the Payson American Legion, the Moose and Elks lodges and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Milligan Dircks; two daughters, Sandra Guiterrez of Soccoro, N.M. and Sheri Lee of Globe, Ariz.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28 at the American Legion in Payson.
