For Julia Randall Elementary School fifth-graders Jordan Fruth and Rachel Creighton, the Turkey Trot 5K run was a chance for the friends to showcase their running prowess. At the Nov. 20 event at Green Valley Park, the two were credited with identical times of 29:32. Creighton, however, crossed the finished line one-half step ahead of Fruth.

Also in the 12-and-under age group, Lucy Schouten was first in 29:02.

In the men's competition, David Cluff, a Horn cross country team member last fall, took first in 17:18. Cluff was entered in the 13-19-years age group.

Among the women, former Lady Longhorn running sensation Rachelle Jones was first in 20:35.00. Jones, now a Northern Arizona University student, was participating in the 20-29-years-age group.

A total of 92 runners competed in the Turkey Trot. According to race director Darlene Pierman, the annual race went off without a hitch.

"Everybody had a good time and no one got hurt," she said. "That's the most important thing."
