The Payson High School spirit line, under the sponsorship of Becky Hager, performed Nov. 25 in Wilson Dome. In the boys game that evening, PHS lost to Apache Junction. The cheer crew will attend most all PHS home games.

The Horns fell to 0-2 Nov. 23 in Wilson Dome after a disappointing 54-36 loss to the Apache Junction Prospectors.

In the Class 4A non-region clash, Payson struggled early scoring only 14 points in the first quarter. But, that anemic outburst looked good to coach Mike Loutzenheiser in the third and four quarters when the Horns scored a total of 12 points.

The coach's frustration peaked in the final quarter when he watched his team fail to score a single field goal and hit just six of 18 free throw attempts. Only one player, senior Darren Daniels, finished the game in double figures with 11 points. Donnie Wilbanks and Brian Schwind scored nine each.

Apache Junction's Cody Anderson proved to be a thorn in the Horns' side all evening, tallying a game-high 18 points; 14 of those came in the second half.

On the junior varsity level, sophomore Hunter Hardt scored 13 points to lead the Longhorn underclassmen to a 56-34 win over the Prospectors.

Coach Kenny Hayes' freshmen dumped Apache Junction 56-43 behind 18 points from Levi Neal. The freshman and junior varsity teams travel to Coronado today with 2-0 records.

All three PHS teams return to the hardwood Dec. 2 at Show Low. Game times are 4 p.m. (freshmen), 5:30 p.m. (jayvee) and 7 p.m. (varsity).
