It's time to enjoy the silly side of your pets during the third annual Dog Day in the Park Oct. 16.
Paws in the Park and the Payson Parks and Recreation Department are sponsoring the event at the Off-Leash Dog Park at Rumsey Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Get your four-legged canine friend ready for competition, which begins at 10:15 a.m. Judges will be awarding prizes for Clever Pet Tricks; Creative Costumes; Best Canine Vocalist; Top Tail Wagger; and Most Adorable Dog-and-Child Team. There will also be games including Musical Chairs, Costume Race (with costumes provided), and Tennis Ball Retrieving. Prizes and ribbons will be awarded to the winners.
On a more serious note, there will be an obedience trial with the best junior handler awarded following the games.
The Payson Humane Society will have an adoption center at the event. Animal control officers from the town and county will be issuing dog licenses. Proof of rabies vaccinations, and spaying or neutering are required.
Vendors will be on hand with a variety of products: fabric dog collars; dog cookies; pet food and supplies; clocks; cat condos; and gifts. Service vendors will provide nail clipping and photos. Paws T-shirts will also be sold.
Refreshments will be offered and music will be provided by Payson's Old Time Music Makers.
Admittance is free, but donations of pet food for the humane society are welcome. All dogs must be on a leash or under control at all times.
Paws in the Park is the official support group for the Off-Leash Dog Park, it also supports spay/neuter programs, awards scholarships to students entering pet-related professions, and pet-ownership education.
