Roger Coleman Metli

Roger Coleman Metli, 72, of Maricopa, died Oct. 4, 2004 in Casa Grande. He was born Dec. 8, 1931 in Austin, Minn.

Mr. Metli was a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Payson, member of the 11th Engineer Combat Battalion Association, and also saw combat in Korea. His love of hang gliding and flying prompted him to get his private pilot's license. He also was a member of the American Kennel Club and the Great Dane Kennel Club, member of NRA, and believed "Gun control is hitting your target on the first shot."

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Elizabeth "Lea" Metli; son, Dale Metli of Germany; eight daughters, Terri Dawn Sherrod of Glendale, Stephanie Marshall of Waddell, Michelle Casper of Chandler, Joy Hall of Tucson, Brooke Bartos of Huntsville, Utah, Diana Dean of Pawhuska, Okla., Clela Metli of Bisbee, and Kati Fain of Maricopa; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Oct. 11 at Payson Pioneer Cemetery.
