The volunteers who bring SCORE services to Payson and the Rim country are conducting a survey of businesses in the area to assess the continuing need for the program.
"We have four counselors available, but we have not seen much activity," said Dick Lillie, one of the area's SCORE counselors.
Lillie said a survey is being sent to about 300 area businesses.
SCORE, Service Corps of Retired Executives, is an organization under the Small Business Administration staffed by volunteer retired businessmen and women. The sole purpose of the organization is to provide free help to owners of small businesses and those aspiring to start their own companies.
SCORE counselors offer assistance in assessing personal business aptitude; market research; legal concerns; financial requirements; people management; and business planning.
Services are provided one-on-one, and a series of workshops are also available:
- Starting your own business;
- Marketing your idea;
- Understanding financial statements;
- Legal issues and asset protection;
- People management;
- How to write a business plan; and
- Using the Internet in business.
