Mitchells Celebrate 50 Years

Richard C. and Frances M. Mitchell of Payson will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 4.

The former Frances M. Karpovich and Richard C. Mitchell were married Sept. 4, 1954 at St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church in Clifton, N.J.

They will be celebrating their anniversary at the 5:30 p.m. mass at St. Philip's Roman Catholic Church, and the following day at a gathering of their family at their daughter Frances' home in Tucson.

Richard was the former director of Material Management at Phoenix Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1997. He also served in the U.S. Navy for four years during the Korean conflict.

Frances graduated from St. Elizabeth's College in Convent Station, N.J. as a dietician with a Bachelor of Science Degree.

The Mitchells have nine children, Richard of Fremont, Calif., Anne and Mary of Buckeye, Eileen of Payson, Frances of Tucson, Fred and Joe of Albuquerque, N.M., Michael of Juneau, Alaska and Kathleen of Apache Junction.

They also have 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The Mitchells moved to Phoenix in 1966, and since that time have lived in Tucson and Fountain Hills before retiring to Payson in 1994.
