New Store Has Eclectic Mix For Bargain Hunters

The new One Dollar Superstore opened its doors Aug. 11, bringing shoppers an opportunity to find everything from hardware to greeting cards for only a dollar, and sometimes less.

"We're a local family owned and operated business," said Lori Moran, who owns the store with her husband, Brian.

Owner Brian Moran of the new One Dollar Superstore at the Payson Center offers bargain hunters a wide selection of goods, all for only a dollar or less.

"We want to bring our neighbors a good price and good quality," Brian said.

The Morans strive to provide a clean and pleasant shopping environment as well.

"All our employees are local residents. We didn't bring anyone in from out of town," Brian said.

The couple opened the store because they felt there was a need for it, Lori said, "and Brian's always wanted to own a business."

"We're not a franchise, so we don't have the buying power (that similar stores have)," Brian said.

However, the Morans buy their stock from the same place as the big discount stores, but take smaller quantities, Lori said

Still, if a customer asks for something special, they will go to their distributors and try to find it for a dollar.

So far the most popular item they carry is reading glasses. They can hardly keep their display stocked.

"We've already had to refill it three times," Brian said. Giving a tour of the store, he pointed to the display -- it is already due to be filled a fourth time.

Lori said they intend to be very involved in community activities and already have plans to participate in the Christmas in September program for the Angel Tree campaign and the Trunk or Treat event for Halloween.

The Morans and their two children have lived in Payson for three years, while other family members have been in the Rim country for more than a decade.

Brian has a background in business management and took business courses at the community college. Together, the Morans also had a property management business.
