Inservice day for most area schools

Payson Unified School District will observe a half-day inservice day Wednesday, Sept. 15.

Julia Randall, Payson and Frontier Elementary Schools dismiss at noon. Lunch will be served to students before they depart.

Rim Country Middle School dismisses at 12:30 p.m. after all lunch hours.

Payson High School dismisses at 12:25 p.m. without serving lunch.

Payson Center for Success High school does not observe the half-day inservices and will operate on its regular schedule.

School district opens new parent resource center

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sept. 18, parents, families and local residents are invited to enjoy hot dogs, drinks, popcorn, and official Arizona Diamondbacks giveaways during the grand opening of the new Parent Resource Center at 514 W. Wade Lane near the high school dome.

Payson Unified School District encourages parents to tour the facility, which was once known as the "In-School Suspension or ISS" building, and acquaint themselves with this new convenient and comfortable resource center designed specifically for parents.

All services and information are intended to accommodate parents and families in both English and Spanish.

Services will include: Parenting Education and Information; Parent Resource Library; Community Agency information and referrals; English classes for non-English speakers; Parent Computer lab; Support Groups; Prevention Programs; School District information; Parent Community Liaison offices and much more.

Magical Parenting Ideas class at GCC

From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 16 at Gila Community College, Terri Legassie, M A. will teach a two-hour class called "Magical Parenting Ideas" for parents and guardians of young children, ages 3 to 10.

Legassie brings many years of practical experience in early childhood development to this program.

Participants will learn the power of communication and consistency as well as ways to instill confidence and self esteem in their children by teaching them to make wise decisions and take responsibility for their own choices and actions.

The cost is $5/adult or $8/couple. Scholarships are available if needed.
