Nasa Telescope Floats Over Payson

Curious onlookers watched as a large, unidentified object floated over Payson Friday.

The object was a balloon twice the size of a football field carrying a telescope apparatus for an astronomy experiment conducted by NASA and Nagoya University of Japan.

The balloon unexpectedly came down in the desert between Wickenburg and Aguila, Ariz.

Stephen Verdeyn, a contractor for NASA, and Ryo Shibata of Nagoya University, prepare the telescope for transport back to Ft. Sumner, N.M., where the team is stationed.
