Resource Center To Be Parent-Friendly

More than 100 parents, teachers and community agency representatives toured the Payson Unified School District's new Parent Resource Center during its open house last week.

The week-long event culminated Sept. 18 when Parent Community Liaison Christy Walton hosted grand opening festivities in which hot dogs, drinks, popcorn and Arizona Diamondbacks souvenirs were given away.

Christy Walton is one of the Parent Community Liaisons who is working out of the new Parent Resource Center located just north of Wilson Dome at Payson High School.

The resource center is located at 514 W. Wade near Wilson Dome. The building was formerly the classroom used for in-school suspensions.

According to Walton, the grand opening allowed parents to acquaint themselves with "this new convenient and comfortable resource center designed specifically for them."

All PRC service will accommodate parents and families in both English and Spanish languages. Services include parenting education and information, community agency information and referrals and English classes for non-English speakers.

There also is a resource library that includes computers and video programs.

According to Walton, the successful transformation of the building was largely due to generous cash donations, labor help from community members, the support of several service clubs and the Tonto Apaches.
