Pam and David Devoe and Kadi Tenney helped cook steaks at the Christmas for Kids cookout the night before the tournament.

Thanks to the Tonto Apache Tribe and all who participated in the charity golf tournament, the Christmas for Kids program now has more than $8,000 to buy clothes and toys for families in need during the holidays.

"The Tonto Apache tribe donated $5,000," Payson Police Det. Matt Van Camp said. "Their contribution was a big help."

For the past 18 years, local law enforcement agencies and the county attorney's office have raised money and collected toys and clothing for local families.

The tournament was especially important this year because most of the toys saved for this Christmas were stolen or destroyed by vandals who broke into the police impound yard in May.

Anyone who would like to make a donation to the Christmas for Kids Program can call Van Camp at (928) 474-5242 ext. 251.
