John Marlowe Leafty, 74, died Sept. 24, 2004 in Shelley, Idaho. He was born Aug. 20, 1930 in Falls City, Neb., to Lewis Richard Leafty and Alta Louise Steele, and was one of three children.
Mr. Leafty married Pauline Taylor Harris on Sept. 6, 1952 in the Mesa, Ariz. temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
His greatest joy in life was his family and being of service to others. He was an active member of the Mormon church and served faithfully in many positions.
Mr. and Mrs. Leafty had the opportunity to serve a full-time mission in California, working with the Laotian people.
Mr. Leafty was a kind and gentle man and was loved and respected by all who knew him. His family and friends will miss him dearly.
He is survived by seven children, Marlow (Debra) of Gaithersburg, Md., Linda (Bill) Watts of Shelley, Idaho, Stephen (JoAnn) of Kirkland, Wash., Charlene (Ray) Gunyon of Fredricksburg, Va., Delbert (Charlene) of Mesa, Gerald (Marcy) of Lampasas, Texas, Jeffrey of Murray, Utah; 15 grandchildren, Deborah, Dionne (Dan) Walsman, Valerie (Charles) Rohn, Jennifer, Cheryl (Troy) Johnson, Mark, Jason, Gregory, T.J., Anthony, Laurie, Katie, Amy, Brittany and Mikaela; five great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Fielding of Provo, Utah; and brother, Eugene (Eloise) of Phoenix.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline; son, Terry; and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4 in the Sunset 5th Ward LDS Chapel, 1402 South 570 West, Provo, Utah. Interment will follow at the Provo City Cemetery. Services under the direction of Berg Mortuary of Provo.
