It's wood that can weather the high seas, so have no fear about decorating an outdoor room in the Rim country with it.

Teak furniture is now available direct from the factory in the Solid Teak Furniture showroom at 620 E. Highway 260, behind Fargo's Steakhouse.

Ron Sigars shows off the rocker and bowed-back captain's chair he offers at Solid Teak Furniture, 620 E. Highway 260, Suite D-1, behind Fargo's Steakhouse.

"I opened the showroom at the end of August," operator Ron Sigars said. "I love solid woods and that's what got me into the business."

The furniture comes directly to the showroom from the Phoenix factory where the wood arrives from the manufacturer's plantation in Costa Rica, Sigars said.

"I was so impressed with the quality, I offered to provide a showroom in Payson," Sigars said.

The level of quality is so substantial, Sigars said the furniture will last decades and a 10-year warranty from the date of purchase is offered to the original buyer.

The furniture also is competitively priced, he said, as much as 30 to 50 percent below market value.

The primary inventory includes a variety of furniture, including Adirondack, patio and outdoor dining chairs; benches and sofas; and a wide assortment of tables. Custom pieces and special orders are available as well, Sigars said.

"(The inventory is) quite a scope of products and they're nice enough to be used inside the home," he said.

Sigars recommends getting upholstered pads for the seats from Tom Kelly Upholstery of Payson. He also suggests leaving the wood unfinished to weather naturally.

Solid Teak Furniture features old world craftsmanship, Sigars said. It is hand fitted, has mortise and tenon joints, solid teak dowels, is countersunk and plugged, uses solid brass fasteners and comes totally assembled at no extra cost.

"It is the most durable of woods and is all weather resistant," he said.

Every aspect of the furniture-making process is under the manufacturer's control -- from the wood harvesting at the teak plantations in Costa Rica, to oven drying to the craftsmanship and importation for sale.

Sigars has been in the Rim country for more than 20 years, working in the medical field for 28 years, with earlier experience in retail sales.

Solid Teak Furniture is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
