New Bookstore Provides Reading Options

If you recently came across a review of a book you'd just love to read but can't find it, stop by The Book Store & More.

The new shop at 1001 S. Beeline Highway, Suite F, behind the Knotty Pine Cafe, opened in February. Lynn Nelson and Robert Feistner are more than happy to do special orders.

Lynn Nelson, co-owner of The Book Store & More, is already surrounded by both new and used paperbacks and hardbacks, but to fully stock the new shop, she will be adding more than 10,000 books to the inventory. The store is located at 1001 S. Beeline Highway, Suite F in Payson, and opens at 10 a.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information, call (928) 468-1027.

They also carry an array of both new and used books in the four-room operation.

"The ‘and more' includes inexpensive gifts, a metaphysical and spiritual materials room, original art work and jewelry with crystals and precious stones," Nelson said. "I also do essential oils therapy by appointment."

The shop also carries Avon products at reduced prices.

Nelson said they are still learning the ins and outs of the business and getting things up to speed.

"We have about 8,000 books in stock and want to have 20,000, so were still building our inventory," she said.

Prices for the books are competitive and all used books are offered for 50 percent off the cover price. The shop will do a trade credit for customers who bring in their used books, Nelson said.

In th future, the shop will feature workshops, lectures, book signings and storytellers.

Two special events are planned next week. An astrology workshop will be presented from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., April 12. A book-signing will take place with Dr. Bob Mayer, at 2 p.m., April 16.

In May there will be workshops on essential oil treatments and hypnotherapy and a book-signing by Guadalupe Sandoval.

Nelson is a professional photojournalist from Alaska. She lived there for more than 30 years and has had work published in "Alaska Magazine," through Associated Press and more. She also was a forensic photographer for the Fairbanks Police Department.

She holds two bachelor's degrees, one in photojournalism and the other in criminal justice, plus she has a master's degree from the American Institute of Holistic Theology. Nelson is currently working on her doctorate in the same field.

She is the administrator and vice president of the board for the Payson Center for Spiritual Awareness on Wade Lane.

The Book Store & More is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday.
