Rim country anglers Jake Randall and Heidi D'Arcangelo won third place in the AllStar Bass Couples tournament at Bartlett Lake April 2.

D'Arcangelo and Randall had a total catch weighing 14.56 pounds, which included a 3.23 pounder.

"This is the highest we've finished," D'Arcangelo said.

The two have been competing in couples fishing tournaments for about four years, she said.

"I love to fish," she said. "I grew up fishing."

D'Arcangelo said her favorite lake to fish is Roosevelt, but she has better contest luck on Bartlett. She said she is hoping for big things this season. The contest season runs from November through June, with the championship held in September.

The duo fished drop-shot worms, crankbaits and jigs.

"We used spider grubs by Gary Yamoto and flippin jigs," Randall said. "We fished at between 8 and 12 feet (of water)."

Their next contest is April 30 on Bartlett, D'Arcangelo said.

"It's a fun thing for couples and it has given us an opportunity to fish on lakes we normally wouldn't drive to," she said. "It's true what they say, a bad day fishing is better than a good day working."

Randall also competes in the aluminum boat category. He and D'Arcangelo are sponsored by Tracker Boats, Mercury Outboards and Tracker Marine Boating Center.

Buddy and Tammy Randall of Payson, Jake's brother and sister-in-law, were in the top 10 and won $180. They caught 12.80 pounds of fish.

The Payson team of Suzy Tubbs and Keith Hunsinger took Big Fish honors and finished in 11th place, winning a total of $875. They won the Big Fish honors with a 4.44-pound largemouth and caught a total of 12.50 pounds of fish for the 11th place finish.

The winners of the event, Judy Chaney and Lanny Wilson of Phoenix. caught nearly 16 pounds of fish, netting $2,450.

According to AllStar, Bartlett Lake was generous, as all but three teams weighed six-fish limits. The water temperature ranged from 61 degrees at take-off to 65 at weigh-in. The air temperature topped out at 75 degrees with sunny skies and wind.

The April 30 contest on Bartlett also is sponsored by AllStar Bass. For more information, call (480) 894-2775.
