Lowe Named Medical Director Of Year

Michael Lowe, M.D., was recently named Life Care Centers of America's Southwest Division Medical Director of the Year for his outstanding work as medical director at Payson Care Center.

As a physician for more than 90 percent of the residents in the facility, Lowe never turns down calls from residents even when he is on vacation or ill.

His role in the census development has been instrumental in elevating and maintaining Medicare census to all-time highs by accepting challenging cases and patients with unusual situations. He has also been instrumental with JCAHO and state regulations and the implementation and enforcement of by-laws.

In addition, he acts as liaison with hospice and the hospital to provide continuity of care levels.

"Dr. Lowe is conscientious, friendly and supportive of the staff," said James Gann, former executive director at the facility who nominated him. "He treats the residents, families and staff with respect and grace, and he is a testament to the Life Care philosophy of ‘Whatever it Takes'!"

Life Care Centers of America, the company that manages Payson Care Center, annually recognizes its medical directors who have particularly distinguished themselves in their roles as encouragers, teammates, advisors and leaders at the nursing facilities in which they serve.

Division Medical Directors of the Year are selected based on their efforts to work jointly with facility health care professionals to develop formal resident care policies; act as liaisons between the attending physicians and other health care professionals caring for the residents; help develop in-service and other educational programs and materials for attending physicians and other professional staff within the institution; contribute significantly to the effectiveness of the center's nursing services; and serve as inspirational examples of dedication to the residents and the facility.

"Medical directors play a vital role in the care and health of our residents," says Don Giardina, president of Life Care Centers of America. "Life Care is delighted to have Dr. Lowe on the team at Payson Care Center because he exemplifies the mission and values of our company. We are pleased to honor him for the devoted service he provides."

Lowe was presented a crystal award during the American Medical Directors Association's annual symposium held in New Orleans, March 18.
