James M. Skoda died April 2, 2005. He was born Feb. 3, 1913 on a ranch north of Hay Springs, Neb. to Anna May Ciliek Skoda and James Martin Skoda Sr.
On Sept. 11, 1935, he married Julia Marie Slavik. After the wedding, they moved to a farm north of North Bend, Neb. They had two daughters, Karen Jean and Sandra Kay.
During Mr. Skoda's life, he had a lumber mill and a chicken ranch in Oregon; built resorts and cabins in northern Minnesota; built houses in Nebraska; and owned liquor stores and a bar in Bellevue, Neb.
He and his wife traveled the United States in trailers, then retired, spending summers in Laporte, Minn. and winters in Hemet, Calif.
In their latter years, the couple moved to Payson. He resided at Manzanita Manor in Payson.
Mr. Skoda is survived by his wife, Julia; daughters, Karen Nelson of Laguna Beach, Calif. and Sandra Barklow of Costa Mesa, Calif.; four granddaughters; two great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.
