Q: Why would it cost more money to establish an MLK day than pay for a floating birthday holiday for employees?

A: According to Fred Carpenter, town manager, overtime is the culprit. Police and fire personnel have to be on duty during holidays, and by the Fair Labor Standards Act, they have to be paid overtime, thereby driving up the cost for an additional holiday.

Q: What's up with the blinking lights in front of some schools like Payson Elementary and Rim Country Middle School? Does it mean we can go faster than 15 mph when they're not on?

A: Payson Police Department Officer Allen Dyer said the flashing lights do mean just that -- when they are not blinking, motorists can drive at the posted speed limit.
