Pmga Members Tee Off In Three Competitions

Ralph Lindo led the Payson Men's Golf Association charge at an intra-club tournament held April 13 at Pine Meadows Golf Club in Heber-Overgaard.

His card of 62 earned him first-flight honors over teammates and runners-up Terry Lindsey and Larry Baker. Both finished at 64.

In the second flight, Payson's Gene Howell posted a 58 to take top honors. Trailing were Armand Werle, 61, and Bob Hendrie, 62.

Closest to the pin honors were garnered by Herb Sherman (No. 17; 7 feet, 4 inches), Rich Jones (No. 4; 7 feet, 8 inches) and Gene Howell (No. 8; 22 feet 8 inches).

In an April 8 tournament at Snowflake, Dick Harding proved to be top gun among the PMGA contingent with a 67. Trailing in the first flight were Tim Ernst, 68, and Frank Szakal, 71.

In the second flight, John Calderwood outdueled runner-up Howell and third-place finisher Doug Talbot for the tournament trophy. Calderwood finished at 66, Howell posted a 67 and Talbot had a 68.

Jack Gibbs took the third flight with a 66. At 68, Don Gyde was runner-up. Don Nicholas posted a 71 to finish third.

Armand Werle and Szakal pocketed closest to the pin prize money.

In a season-opening four-man scramble at Payson Golf Course, Tom Dahl, Roger Poole, Werle and Howell tallied a 64 to win tournament laurels in the first flight. Reese Dennis, Doug Talbot, Carl Damon and Szakal won the second flight with a 63.
