A 5K is 3.1 miles. Cee Cee and I will be walking at a normal walking pace and we should finish in about 55 minutes.
This is more than just a 55 minute walk for us May 7. I didn't think Cee Cee would be around in 2005 due to back-to-back illnesses last fall. But thanks to Dr. Hettler and the wonderful staff at Star Valley Vet and ARECA in Mesa, Cee Cee's doing great for a dog that's going to be 15 years old July 20.
We started in December walking in our neighborhood one minute at a time for about two weeks. Then we'd go to Rumsey Park or Green Valley Park and do six minutes, then 12 minutes, 20 minutes and 45 minutes.
When we did a very slow 4 miles in about 90 minutes at Woods Canyon Lake March 27, I knew then she was pretty much back to normal.
It's fine if you let your dog run and play in your fenced yard or at the off-leash park at Rumsey. But there's that special bonding you get when you regularly walk with (and talk to) your dog while you're walking. I've been doing this with Cee Cee since she chose me to adopt her from the Santa Fe, N.M. Animal Shelter September of 1990.
Hope to see all ages with their dogs at Rumsey Park May 7 at 8 a.m. for the PAHH "Home Run" 5K Walk/Run.on't forget your leash and plastic bags.ater will be furnished for both of you.
Do it for "your best friend's health and for yours!"
