Billy U. Hasty


Billy U. Hasty died Aug. 1, 2005, in Phoenix.

Mr. Hasty was a man of many talents: farm worker, burger flipper, mechanic, Boy Scout leader, president of the Booster Club at Carl Hayden High School, salesman for Standard Brand Paints, from which he retired, as well as being an ordained minister in the Southern Baptist Church.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a quartermaster. He and his wife, Patty, lived in Star Valley for several years and were members of the Star Valley Baptist Church.

He is survived by children, Virginia Hines and Timothy (Peggy) Hasty, both of Payson, and Billie Sue (Randy) Guthrie of Phoenix; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Leo (Vera Mae) Hasty of Altus, Okla., and Johnny (Rachel) Hasty of Arab, Ala.; sisters, Cleo Reed of Portland, Ore., and Maudie (Billy) Burns of Fair Oaks, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49-1/2 years, Patty. Also preceding him in death were his parents, John and Ona Hasty; brothers, Garland and Waylon; and sisters, Mozell and Lela Mae.

Donations can be made to West Thomas Baptist Church, 3948 W. Thomas Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85019. A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m., Monday, Aug. 8 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd. in Phoenix. A celebration of his life will be held at West Thomas Baptist Church, Phoenix, in the near future.
