Western Live-Ammo Single-Shot Competition This Weekend

Mosey on down to the Tonto Rim Gun Range this weekend.

Saturday and Sunday, the Arizona Cowboy Shooters Association will stage its monthly match in Payson.

David Palmateer and his Payson posse, the Tonto Rim Marauders -- about 12 of them -- will join the Valley gang for rounds of live-ammo competition.

"We shoot at metal targets," said Palmateer. "But we use all-lead bullets so they don't ricochet."

Palmateer said everything, including the firearms -- pistols, rifles and shotguns -- hark back to the days when only the grittiest of the gritty made a life in the dust of the lawless Western desert.

For more information, contact Palmateer at (928) 472-9136 or visit the Arizona Cowboy Shooters Association at www.acsainc.com or the Tonto Rim Marauders at tontorim.mypayson.com.

The Tonto Rim Gun Range is located south of Payson off Highway 87. Take the first left after Round Valley Road onto a dirt road. Follow the road about a half mile -- it ends at the gun range.

Sign up at the shooting range at 7:30 a.m., competition begins at 9 a.m.
