Q: Why does Head Start keep putting an ad in the paper for daycare when they are not accepting any more children? Isn't that a waste of taxpayer dollars?
A: "We haven't selected our enrollment for this year yet. We continuously take applications, then we take all those applications and prioritize them by special circumstances and family situations, disabilities and those types of things. So we put the ad in to continuously take applications because we have a waiting list. We are mandated by the state that if we drop children (from Head Start) we need to replace them within five days. Right now, we have an enrollment of twenty families... we are not screening those families until Monday." Applications are reviewed by committee and Head Start will choose those applicants that they feel they can help the most.
