As you may know, Payson is where rodeo began. We have the distinction of hosting the World's Oldest Continuous Rodeo, and this year we will be hosting the 121st rodeo Aug. 19-21 at the Payson Event Center.
Since its inception in 1884 when it was known as "August Doin's," the Payson Rodeo has been a traditional celebration featuring Western feats of skill that entertain the observer and offer competition and prize monies to those participating in the various events, from steer roping to bronc busting and bull riding.
This is a very special time in our town because we are able to present the World's Oldest Continuous Rodeo which defines the very pioneer
heritage upon which our town identity rests.
Rodeo time in Payson resurrects a part of American Western history which we treasure as a part of our town's legacy to future generations.
I am proud of our town, and privileged to be part of its leadership. We have come a long way from the dusty streets of 1884, and our town offers local citizens and visitors alike amenities one would expect of a quality community.
Rodeo weekend will include an old-fashioned parade, rodeo dances and other events that appeal to folks of all ages. I have attended the World's Oldest Continuous Rodeo over the years and seen how many visitors as well as friends and neighbors enjoy it.
Be part of our Payson tradition, join with me and I'll see you at our Payson Rodeo 2005.
