Elk Enjoy Snacking On Bird Feed

This big guy got a little upset with Bob Quay when he forgot to fill the bird feeder. Although these elk are very large, you wouldn't think they would eat the bird feed, but I have seen many elk do some serious damage to bird feeders in the area. Several of them get their antlers hung up around the feeders and they end up on the ground with the birds being a little unhappy with the elk.

Don't forget the Firewise Meeting Saturday, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m. at the LDS Chapel in Christopher Creek on Apple Lane. There will be a presentation by Mechenzie and Chris Jones. Learn what you can do to in the area of fire prevention and fire safety.

Some elk enjoy a snack of bird feed and can severely damage backyard feeders.

At the August Firebelle meeting only five women showed up. President Sandy Kalmar said it's always the same women and they could really use some new volunteers. At the Sept. 15 meeting they will be nominating new officers for the next year and they are hoping that more people will get involved. They would hate to fold up this group of dedicated volunteers who do so much for the fire department. So, be sure and show up on Sept.15 at 2 p.m. at the fire station and volunteer to help out.

Labor Day weekend is coming up soon and the Firebelles, in conjunction with the Tonto Village Fire Sirens, are holding a silent auction from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3. If you have anything to donate, call Sandy Kalmar at (928) 478-4774. The Firebelles will also sponsor an ice cream social Sept. 4 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Fire Station 51 in Christopher Creek. Be sure and come over and have dessert.

The Landmark is also gearing up for their Labor Day Celebration. Friday night, Sept. 2, is an all-you-can-eat fish fry, featuring the live music of "The Loaded Pistols" beginning around 8 p.m. Saturday afternoon, Sept. 3 they will have outside BBQ and live music featuring "the once famous" Bernie. This event will have Bernie cooking beer-butt chicken, ribs, Bernie Brats and Bernie Burgers out by the creek beginning at noon. (Together they can make Bernie famous again). Actually, does anyone want Bernie to be famous again? It seems that Bernie would not make the trip unless they mentioned his name at least a dozen times. Bernie, Bernie, Bernie. Come out and enjoy live entertainment music with Deek, by the creek, horseshoes, games, and fun. This will all take place near Bernie.

Saturday night the Loaded Pistols will again take the stage inside beginning at 8 p.m. It sounds like a fun Labor Day Weekend.

The ladies nine-ball tournament was held at the Landmark this week, but they did not have enough ladies to play, so they invited the men. It looks like first place went to Doug Paul, Bo's other half or better known as Cupcake, although I think she is the only one who calls him that. As big as he is, I know I would never call him that. Second place went to Bo Mathews, Doug's other half. And third place went to Susie Shill. Congratulations everyone. If you have a birthday or an anniversary coming up, or anything you would like in the paper you can e-mail me at marazza@cybertrails.com everything needs to be in at the beginning of the week to get in Friday's paper.
