A 17-year-old male driving a Ford truck collided with Payson police officer Ben Moss' patrol car on Aug. 20 at the intersection of state Highway 87 and Malibu Drive.

"Moss was transported to Payson Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released," said Commander Don Engler of the Payson Police Department.

The investigation is headed by the Arizona Department of Public Safety since it involved a member of PPD, Engler said. DPS Officer Doc Dimbat is conducting the investigation.

"He's a nice kid and was very up front about it," Dimbat said. "The first thing he said was it was his fault. His parents can be proud of him."

The juvenile was adjusting his car radio, Dimbat said. When he looked up, the light at the intersection was red and he couldn't stop, Dimbat added. The teen was charged with failure to stop at a red light.
