Time has gone so quickly this past month, that I have missed creating a column for two weeks. I apologize to my readers, but there were many reasons for this. One reason was that my computer crashed. I have had the HP Pavilion, millennium edition, since 2001, and it finally gave up the ghost. With the help of Lynn and Janis at Computech, I now have a CPU that should last a few years. I thank them for their expert help.
My husband and I were going back and forth to Yuma for most of the month of November, finishing up on personal business. On a brighter side, we were able to spend more time with my children and grandchildren. That is always a plus for us.
While we were gone, Tonto Village was gearing up for the Christmas holidays. Many of the homes are now decked out with blow-up decorations, which are fantastic, as well as lighting. We should all make an effort to dress up our homes for the holidays and give the whole community a festive air.
Tonto Village Fire District
The monthly Fire Board meeting will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 at the fire station. Please mark that date on your calendar. There are many events happening this month, and it would be easy to miss the meeting.
Chief Alliger stresses the importance of no burning in the forest. There was an incident last week near Thompson Draw II that raised much concern. An individual brought leaves and brush into the forest and proceeded to burn the pile. Fire trucks were called in to extinguish the pile. It is against the law to burn in the forest, and fines will be issued to violators. The forest is extremely dry, and only the Forest Service can handle prescribed burns. A burn pit is always open on weekends, either at the Ponderosa Pit or on Highway 87 north of Payson.
