The Rim Country Middle School Maverick wrestling team will take eight medal-winning grapplers to the White Mountain League finals Dec. 10 in Show Low.
Those medals were garnered Nov. 19 at the Heber-Mogollon Invitational that featured most of the same teams and athletes that will participate in the WML championships.
The Mavs' best chances at winning weight class championships might fall on the shoulders of Ben Sandoval, Ben Lee and Matt Schreur. All won weight class gold medals at the Mogollon mat showdown and will be solid contenders for WML laurels.
Also set to advance from RCMS is Mogollon silver medalist John Husky.
Those who wrestled their way to third place finishes and bronze awards at Mogollon include Troy Loutzenheiser, Tanner Savage, Logan Garner and Dustin Isles.
The WML finals will mark the culmination of a wrestling season that began in mid-October.
In the WML yearlong format, the basketball season begins after wrestling. The school year wraps up with track and field.
Unlike high school, where some students have to choose between sports, the White Mountain League hosts only one sports offering each year.
