The Longhorn boys basketball team, fresh from winning the consolation championship at the Winslow Shootout Dec. 1 to 3, will honor military veterans during pregame ceremonies at a Dec. 7 game against Fountain Hills.

The ceremony, which will include honoring each veteran present, a remembrance of Pearl Harbor and posting of the colors by Civil Air Patrol cadets, will begin at 6:15 p.m. in PHS gymnasium.

The Horns will be in the old gym rather that Wilson dome due to a scheduling conflict with wrestling.

Following the ceremony, all veterans are invited to remain, free of charge, and cheer the Horns on against the defending state champion Fountain Hills Falcons coached by former PHS teacher Cain Jagadinski.

The varsity clash will be preceded at 5:30 p.m. by a junior varsity game. There will be no freshman game, as Fountain Hills does not have a frosh team.

In addition to the showdown against the visiting Falcons, the Horns host Globe Dec. 6 and travel Dec. 9 and 10 to the Pepsi Cola Shoot Out in Flagstaff.

Payson is returning to the Pepsi Cola affair after an absence of four years in which the team traveled instead to a tournament near Laughlin, Nev.

Game times against Globe are 4 p.m. (freshmen), 5:30 p.m. (jayvee) and 7 p.m. (varsity). Admission is $5 for adults and $4 for students.
