Christopher Creek Woman Celebrates 90 Years

Marge Matus celebrated her 90th birthday Dec. 1 with a room full of close friends and family.

A close friend of the family, Father Steven Dart, came by and gave the blessing before dinner. Marge reminisced about some things that happened to her over the years. One thing she said she wouldn't ever forget happened just last year when she was boating at Lake Mead with her son John Matus, his wife Olive, and Richard Henry. The boat sank and they all ended up in the water. Her words after that episode were, "I will never get on another boat unless it is the Queen Mary." Marge is one of the sweetest ladies around. She is one of the original Fire Belles.

Marge Matus was treated to a party with family and friends for her 90th birthday Dec. 1. The event was held at her son, John and daughter-in-law Olive Matus' Creekside Steak House.

There are more Christmas decorations going up in Christopher Creek. Mel and Pam Milhon have their place lighted, as do Karen Thorton, Judy Toole and Duane Hansol. Across the creek, John Zaleska's place looks very nice, as do Mark and Laura Alvin's and Carol and Steve Graham's places. Mimi Tidwell has her place decorated too. My favorite is the tree that Dean and Jenny decorated behind their place. This isn't just any old tree; it is up behind their place in the forest, on the hill.

Debbie at Tall Pines Market had Mike Chabot of Tree Crafters come out and climb the big ponderosa pine in front of the store and decorate it. You can sure see it from a distance.

Don't forget the Christmas potluck at the Christopher Creek Bible Fellowship Church at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9.

The children's Christmas party is at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17. All community children and grandchildren, ages 12 and under, are encouraged to attend. Children should bring two canned goods or nonperishable food items. They will decorate and fill food boxes for local families.

Santa will visit the children at 2 p.m. and he will have a holiday stocking for each child. Call Karen Thorton at (928) 478-4133 or Judy Toole at (928) 478-0508 to let them know the names and ages of the children who plan to attend. Join in later that evening for Christmas caroling around the community. The singers will leave the fire hall at 6 p.m. Dress warmly and bring along a flashlight. Afterward, there will be hot chocolate and cookies.

Creekside's Christmas party is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19. It is a potluck, and Lynda St. John will provide the music. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Landmark's Christmas party, a potluck, is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22. Everyone is welcome to attend.

There is an opening on the Christopher/Kohl's Fire Board. Interviews will be held at the end of January. If you are interested in this position, please call Lorraine at the fire station, (928) 478-4011.
