Time is flying by, and I feel that I will never catch up with decorating, shopping, visiting old friends and writing Christmas cards. December is also a very busy one as far as birthdays go for the Snyder family -- six of them, along with a wedding anniversary.
An old-fashioned Christmas
Residents of Tonto Village, Christopher Creek, Bear Flat and the surrounding area enjoyed "An Old-fashioned Christmas" luncheon provided by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Dec. 3. The Relief Society, under the direction of Tonto Village III resident Alice Andreas, hosted the luncheon, which was prepared by Linda Stailey. Committee members from the village were Chris Manning, Marge Tolby, Maurine Kirchhoefer, Charlie Martin, Alice Andreas, Kent Mortenson and Linda Digman.
Double D get-together
Ethel Cain has announced the date for the annual community Christmas potluck dinner at the Double D Restaurant. Mark your calendars for this event. It will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17. Bring one of your favorite dishes and join in celebrating the Christmas season with old friends and maybe meet new ones.
The Double D has arranged a memorial service for Wade Reed, who died recently. Wade was a part-time resident of Tonto Village and came up from the Valley to ride quads with many of the fellows in the village. The service is at 3 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Double D.
Flo Haulot, a former resident of the village, who now spends most of her time in Tonto Basin, suffered a stroke about two weeks ago. She is doing well, but will undergo therapy in Payson for a time.
Her husband, ‘Honest John' celebrated his birthday on Thursday, Dec. 8. A belated happy birthday, John. Flo will celebrate her birthday on Dec. 14. Happy birthday to you, Flo.
Other birthdays are: Jeff Shaw, Dec. 12; Carol Fulp, Dec. 14, along with Phil Davenport, Duane Long of Long Ranch and John Digman.
Tonto Village Fire District
The regular monthly fire board meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 10 at the fire station. The meeting is open to the public and all residents of the district are urged to attend.
