Chase Welcomed To Payson

Cathy Penrod, branch manager, beamed as Mayor Barbara Brewer snipped the red ribbon during Chase Bank's grand-opening ceremony Monday morning.

"Chase is an international bank," Penrod said. "But we'll keep the small-town feel."

Louise Lopez, Tonto Apache Tribe; John Wilson, town council; Cathy Penrod, bank manager; and Bonnie Dorris, chamber of commerce ambassador committee, welcome Chase to Payson's financial community.

Residents and bank customers chatted with town and local business leaders between the ribbon-cutting pomp and mouthfuls of candy, cookies and cake.

"It's wonderful," said Tina Bruess, executive director of Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce. "And the nice thing about Chase is we have the same people and the same location."

Chase and Bank One merged a year ago, combining Chase's mortgage and investment services with Bank One's retail banking.

"It was a friendly marriage," Penrod said. "Bank One customers do not have to reorder checks or change credit card information -- they'll be reissued."

Business patron John Nimtz managed to conduct his banking among the ribbon-cutting din.

"I've been through several banks," Nimtz said. "And I like that Chase is all over the world."

Chase is offering gifts -- from Starbucks' gift cards to iPods -- for opening new accounts.

Business hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. Chase is located at 201 S. Beeline Highway, Payson. Contact the bank at (928) 474-2287 for more information.
