Joseph Sculac was recently welcomed by the Rim Golf Club -- Arizona's No. 1 luxury golf community -- as its new general manager.
"We are thrilled to have Sculac join our team," said Vice President of Club Operations Michael Mlaker. "His extensive experience working in some of the most prestigious golf clubs around the United States will be a great asset to the Rim Golf Club."
Sculac began his hospitality career in Europe.
A native of Yugoslavia, he and his family moved to Italy where he went to work in the hospitality industry in Trieste, "the heart by the boot" on the Adriatic Sea.
"Where I come from, in European hospitality you must speak three languages," said Sculac. At one time he spoke French, German and Russian in addition to the English, Italian, Spanish and Slavic he is fluent in now.
Sculac immigrated to the United States in 1969 after working as a wine steward at the Roma Hotel in Italy.
"I've been in hospitality all my life, from the hustle and bustle of New York for 20 years, then 18 in Florida," said Sculac. Among others, he has worked for Mahopac and Canyon Golf Clubs in New York and Cypress Links Golf Club in Florida. Prior to coming to Payson, Sculac was the food and beverage director for Boca Polo Club in Boca Raton, Fl.
"Payson is the town for me," Sculac said. He visited the town three years ago but the timing was not right. Now, he is looking forward to buying a home and enjoying the four seasons in the Rim Country, which reminds him of the area where he grew up. "I am happy and content. I want to sit back and smell the roses."
Of his new position, Sculac said, "This is the best place, the jewel of the clubs I have worked in."
