The highlight of the sports weekend will be the annual Rim Country Duals wrestling tournament, with six Class 2A to 5A teams battling it out in Wilson dome.
Set to participate in the Dec. 16 and 17 showdown are Queen Creek, Canyon State Academy, Skyline, Phoenix Christian, San Manuel and Payson.
Tournament Director Don Heizer anticipates Queen Creek, Skyline and San Manuel high schools, along with Payson, will be title contenders.
"All have some good individual wrestlers," he said.
Action tips off at 3 p.m. the first day, with round robin dual meets expected to wrap up about 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, team clashes begin at 9:30 a.m. and conclude about 12:30 p.m., with crowning of the team champion and runners-up.
About 1:30 p.m., an individual mini-tournament will feature the top four individuals in each weight class -- based on their performances in the duals -- against one another.
Following this part of the event, individual champions will be crowned.
There is no admission and the wrestlerettes will operate a concession stand.
"We want everyone to come out and support the wrestling program," Heizer said.
Horns fans will have the opportunity to see some of Payson's finest grapplers in action including Porter Wilbanks, Mark McCarty, David Cluff, Troy Jenkins, Lee Perez and others.
