With the filing deadlines now past, the following are candidates for the Payson and Diamond Star (Star Valley) town councils:

The Diamond Star council will choose a mayor from among its ranks.
"This time around they decided not to adopt a resolution that allowed the mayor to be elected by the general public," Diane McDaniel, interim town clerk, said. "The first elected town council will elect its mayor from within, and then it will be their decision (whether to allow the voting public to elect the mayor)."
Both elections are March 14, and mail-in ballots will be mailed out Feb. 9, with a second mailing Feb. 27 that includes newly registered voters.
The registration deadline is Feb. 13. Write-in candidates must file a nomination paper with the town clerk 40 days prior to the election.
