Q: Is there a fire pole at the new fire station they are building on Main Street? If not, why? Are they in use any more?
A: No. "OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) kind of put the stamp out on that. People were getting twisted ankles, so over the last 20 years or so they have phased them out. They aren't prevalent in Arizona. They went to the slides, and the slides are great, but they take up more room than a pole," said Fire Marshal Mike Winters. The new Payson Fire Department building won't have a slide either.
