According to Terry Weisser, director of camp operations for Whispering Hope Ranch, journalist Bruce Dunbar of Fox 10 News has wanted to do a piece about the ranch for a long time. He came out and took a lot of footage of the ranch and of Jon Coleman, who has a rare form of muscular dystrophy.
"Jon is such a wonderful little ambassador for us," Weisser said.
"He has a real connection with Lucky, one of our blind horses," she added.
Coleman just earned his varsity letter in academics from Payson High School and will walk with his graduating class in 2006.
Lucky Lady is one of 14 nurturing horses at Whispering Hope. The 9-year-old white horse was blinded during a training accident when she was 3 and was then given to the ranch.
Establishing the Whispering Hope Ranch Foundation was the dream of Diane T. Reid more than 10 years ago. It is a place where special needs children can interact, in a healing environment, with special-needs animals.
Visit www.whisperinghoperanch.org for more information on the ranch.
The story of the ranch for special animals and people is scheduled to air at 9 p.m. Christmas Eve on Fox Channel 10.
