A Monday night clash with Chinle closed the 2005 portion of the Longhorn basketball season. The Horns won the match-up 60-53.
Coach Chuck Hardt said the team made 55 percent of its field goals and dominated the rebounds, pulling down 29 to Chinle's 16.
"On the downside, Chinle shot 52 percent against us," Hardt said.
He acknowledged the following young men for outstanding effort Monday: Brandon Buckner, who scored 15 points and had seven rebounds; Robert Neuman, who made 11 points; Hunter Hardt, for his 10 points and four rebounds; and Brian Schwind, who made eight points and captured eight rebounds.
The Dec. 19 victory gives the Horns a 7-6 record.
"We have a lot to work on," Hardt said," especially defensively."
The team is off for eight days due to finals and the holidays, but returns to practice on Dec. 29 to prepare for a home court showdown with Holbrook Jan. 4. This will be followed by a home game with Snowflake, Jan. 6. The Snowflake game was scheduled to be at the White Mountain school's new gym, but construction has not been completed.
The Longhorns are currently selling tickets for a fund-raising fish fry, scheduled for Jan. 12.
