Three Phoenix residents sustained minor injuries during a single-car accident after their vehicle flipped Dec. 21.
The accident occurred on a curved section of Highway 87 near the Highway 188 junction.
"We have a lot of collisions at that curve," said Department of Public Safety officer Ken Norton.
Norton said the driver admitted to driving 100 mph around the bend, and then losing control.
The average speed on that curve, said Norton, is 75 mph; the posted speed is 55 mph. "But I would go slower," Norton said.
One passenger was airlifted to Scottsdale-Osborn Medical Center and Norton cited the driver for speeding.
The driver and passengers were wearing seat belts.
