Rock Yard Is Growing By Leaps And Bounds

One might say Steve Rogers' business is rock solid.

Rogers, vice president of The Rock Yard, began his stone and masonry supply business in Payson, and has since expanded it to Show Low and Chandler.

This year, The Rock Yard is growing again, expanding its Chandler operation with a new showroom, design center and warehouse, starting a store in Bullhead City and opening a distribution center in the west Valley.

The Bullhead City operation is due to open in March and will be serving contractors from Kingman to Lake Havasu, Rogers said.

The new Chandler facility will be 14,000 square feet when it is completed. The company expects to break ground for that project at the end of this month.

Rogers' business isn't just booming, it's also award-winning. The Rock Yard was presented the Arizona Masonry Guild's award of excellence for its work at The Rim Club of Payson.

"It's a pretty prestigious award and it is on display at The Rim Club," Rogers said.

The award was for the stone the company supplied for the project, a golf course and home development.

In addition to this special award, Rogers said he learned in October his company is the top retailer of Owens Corning Cultured Stone for all of Arizona. And during 2004, sales increased by 112 percent.

"Our success has been contractor-based," Rogers said. "We have built a loyal relationship with contractors and have a good staff."

This model for success started with the Payson operation when it began in 1998 and has been carried to the stores in both Show Low and Chandler and will be replicated in Bullhead City.
