New turn lanes going into the county yard are the newest improvements planned for Highway 260 east of Star Valley.

The upgrade project, in the works for two years, was approved by the Gila County Board of Supervisors, and will be completed in conjunction with the Arizona Department of Transportation.

"Work should start around April 2006," said Steve Sanders with the county's public works department. The estimated cost is $380,000 and the improvements should be completed by early or mid-September 2006, Jim Confer of ADOT's Prescott District Office said.

"Preliminary plans will be completed by the beginning of March (2005)," Confer said.

The full plans will be developed during the remainder of the year and the project will go to bid in early 2006, he said.

"There will be traffic delays similar to those on the current (Highway) 260 work," Sanders said. "But there will be none after noon on Fridays, the weekends or holidays."
