Sheri Kovar of Tonto Basin was the lucky winner of the 2004 Kawasaki four-wheel drive all-terrain vehicle the Payson Youth Football Association raffled off.

In a Feb. 25 drawing held in the offices of the Payson Roundup, Kovar's name was chosen from the hundreds of $10 tickets sold.

Angela Parker, president of the Payson Youth Football Association, drew Sheri Kovar's name in the group's drawing for a 2004 Kawasaki 4x4 ATV. Kovar is a resident of Tonto Basin.

Last season, Kovar was a cheerleader coach for the Payson Eagles team.

Payson Youth Football Association president Angela Parker estimates the value of the quad at more than $5,000.

Parker also says the fund-raiser was a success and helped generate money that will be used to run the football program.

Fund-raiser at PES

The Longhorn wrestlerettes will host a benefit steak dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. March 3 in the Payson Elementary School cafeteria. The menu will include barbecued sirloin steak, baked potato, salad, beans and Pepsi Cola. The tickets, which are available from any wrestlerette or at the door, are $6 for adults and $3 for children 10 and younger.

The girls plan on using part of the money to fund their annual project of compiling scrap books for members of the Payson High School wrestling team.

Show your support for the hardworking wrestlerettes and the spirit group by turning out for the dinner. It's a delicious meal for a good cause.

Adult town basketball

Teams participating in the town-sponsored adult basketball league have the option of entering -- at the March 24 conclusion of the season -- double elimination championship tournament. The entry fee is $100 and the deadline is March 18.

According to town recreation specialist Charlene Hunt, if there is enough interest in two divisions, she will schedule a separate recreation tournament bracket along with a competitive one. To do so, she needs at least four teams in each division.

Basketball wraps up

The Payson High School boys basketball teams will hold their annual season ending awards ceremonies at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the cafeteria. All parents and fans are invited to join the freshmen, junior and varsity players at the festivities.

Dessert will be served.
