A flash flood watch for northern Gila County, including Payson, was issued by the National Weather Service in Flagstaff Friday morning.

Another storm system will affect northern and central Arizona beginning Friday afternoon and continuing through Sunday.

The heaviest rainfall is expected over northern Gila and Yavapai counties, according to NWS. Precipitation is expected to exceed an inch in most locations, with some areas getting up to 2 inches.

Much of the watch area has already receive recent heavy rains, which have saturated the ground. Because of this, any additional precipitation will quickly produce the potential for flooding.

A flash flood watch means residents should be prepared for quick action if threatened with flooding.

Other communities in the watch area are Camp Verde, Cottonwood, Sedona, Oak Creek, Prescott, Cordes Junction, Ash Fork, Seligman and Bagdad.
