Rim Country Family Lives On New Year's Faith

Two days late, but Payson has its official New Year's baby.

A healthy 8 pounds, 7 ounces, Faith Elizabeth Roberts entered the world at 9:51 p.m., Jan. 3.

Kristin Roberts holds Faith Elizabeth Roberts, Payson's official New Year's baby. The family chose the name Faith when they decided to live on faith and stay in Payson.

Cory Houghton, spokeswoman for the Payson Regional Medical Center, said the hospital was lucky to have had a birth this soon after the first of the year; sometimes it takes weeks.

Faith's mother, Kristin Roberts, said the name was chosen for a special reason.

"She's our Faith baby," she said.

Kristin found out she was pregnant after she, her husband Rees, and their 3-year-old son, David were packed up and ready to move out of Payson.

Rees said he had quit his job and everything was set for the move, but the pregnancy news made them reconsider. The Roberts took it as a sign from God that Payson should be their home for just a bit longer, Rees said.

"We began to live on faith," he said. "We're living on faith, so she's our faith baby."

The parents aren't the only ones excited about the new addition to the family; Faith's big brother couldn't be happier, Kristin said.

"He's so excited," she said.

Although David was too shy to comment, his parents said he'd already made a list of games and activities he'd like to play with Faith.

The Roberts family received one other gift along with Faith, a basket of goodies donated by businesses, including, the Mogollon Health Alliance, Sesame Inn, Crosswinds Restaurant, El Rancho, Safeway, Bashas', and PRMC.
